Joanne Reed
This newsletter is dedicated to our beloved Joanne Luttenegger who passed away on April 18, 1994. She will live on in many special ways through the love and kindness she showed, the comfort she gave and the dreams she left behind. There were three things that were important in Joanne. The first was her tremendous faith in God. She rejoiced in Him and walked with Him daily and that gave her strength to make it through the challenges she faced. All who knew Joanne could see His love and His light shining brightly through her. She was the sweetest and most gentle person I ever met and yet she had the strength of the Lord upon her.
Joanne was a wonderful wife and mother and her family meant so much to her. She and Harold had six beautiful children (3 sons and 3 daughters), and of course her sons and daughters-in-laws whom she loved as her own. She was also blessed with 2 beautiful grand-babies. But Joanne had a way of making everyone feel like her family….her loving and nurturing reached out to everyone she met.
Joanne’s third love in life was being in Mary Kay. She loved the products, the company and the company philosophy of God first, family second and career third which she truly practiced. Joanne reached out to the many women God placed in her path. She did this by lovingly and freely sharing the products and opportunity. She built a strong customer base with over 100 on the District Support Program. Her clients lover her very much and took pride in giving them the best service possible. She also dreamed of becoming a Mary Kay Director and was so proud of her team members: Sandy Angelle, Chris Pasterz, Anne Stine, Christie Varner and Annette Winfield. She believed and dreamed for all of you.
Joanne truly represented the “Go Give” Spirit of our company. She always had a great sense of Team Spirit and was committed to our unit and to me herDirector. She was always doing something nice for somebody else and often had a word of encouragement to give others. She preserved with a positive attitude, never ever complained and expected only the best in every situation, no matter what. She took great pride and joy in her career, in becoming the best Mary Kay consultant she could be, and attended Mary Kay Success meetings, Career Conferences and Seminars as long as she was able with her poor health. I know there were times she attended events even though she was in a great deal of pain. But she didn’t miss anything!

Joseph H. Baker
Joseph H. Baker, a representative of the farming interests of Calhoun county, resides on section 4, Sherman township. He is numbered among- Iowa's native sons, his birth having occurred in Keokuk county on the 10th of November, 1870. His father, Peter Baker, was a German farmer of that county and was born in Germany. October 7. 1839. He married Miss Mary Piper, who also was a native of Germany, born October 24, 1840, their wedding, however, being celebrated in Keokuk county, Iowa. When a youth of fifteen the father bade adieu to his native land and the home of his childhood and crossed the Atlantic to America. His wife was a little maiden of only six summers when she was brought to the new world and became a resident of the Hawkeye state. Mr. Baker has now passed away, his death having occurred on the 1st of August, 1897, in the fifty-eighth year of his age, but Mrs. Baker is still living, her home being in Keokuk county. They were the parents of the following named children: Lena, the wife of Antony Aller, a resident of Washington county, Iowa; John, who is living in this county; Mary and Mike, both deceased; Joseph H., of this review; Elizabeth, the wife of Stephen Yager, of Calhoun county; Wendall, who is living in Keokuk county: Teressa, the wife of Charles Berwen, of Calhoun county; and Emma, the wife of John Olinger, of Keokuk county.
In the district schools near his home Joseph Baker pursued his education and through the summer months he worked in the fields. He continued upon the home farm until twenty-three year- of age, when he rented land and began farming on his own account. In 1895 he came to Calhoun county, taking up his abode upon a farm which he had purchased the year previous, and which comprises the southeast quarter of section four and forty acres of the northeast quarter of section four. Sherman township, making in all two hundred acres of land. He has the entire place under cultivation and has transformed it into a very valuable tract. He has erected substantial buildings and has added all modern equipments and accessories so that the place may now be classed among the model farms of the twentieth century in Calhoun county.
On the 28th of November, 1893, Mr. Baker was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hammen of Keokuk county. Iowa. Her parents were Peter and Margaret (Petget) Hammen, both of whom were natives of Germany, the former born December 17, 1833, and the latter January 9, 1844. They were married on the 24th of January, 1865, and the same year sought a home in the new world, taking up their abode in Iowa. Unto them were born six children, as follows: August, who is living in Calhoun county; Annie, deceased; Nick, also of this county; Susan, wife of Joseph Stein of Calhoun county; Mary, the wife of our subject; and Peter who is living in this locality. Mrs. Baker was born August 19, 1875, in Keokuk, and by her marriage has become the mother of four children: Oliver, born September 4, 1896; Ernest, born July 18, 1897; Arnold, born April 11, 1899; and Verona, born June 28, 1901, The parents and their children are members of St. Mary's Catholic church of Pomeroy and in his political affiliations Mr. Baker is a Democrat, but has never sought or desired office, preferring to devote his time and energies to his business affairs, in which he is meeting with well deserved success, as a result of his industry and well spent life.

Joseph Sieren was born in Germany June 7, 1857 and died July 2nd, 1928. He came to this country March 25th, 1875, age the age of eighteen years, and settled in Clear Creek township, Keokuk County, which community was always his home, until 1916, when he moved to Harper, Iowa. In 1878 he was unitedin marriage to Anna Heisel, who preceded him in death July 10th, 1900. To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded him in death: August, who died in 1897; Joseph in 1920; Mrs. Mary Palmer in 1926. In 1903 he was again married to Helena Wellenstein, who passed away on September 16th, 1927, after which time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Wm. P. Greiner. Surviving him are the following children: Peter, Michael and Nicholas of Clear Creek; Mrs. Margaret Merz of Harper; Mrs. Anna Conrad, Hillsboro; and Mrs. Rose Greiner, Keota. There are also 42 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His tragic death was a great shock to his family and friends. He had suffered a stroke three years ago and had been afflicted with poor health since. Especially since last September hadhe been less than himself than previously. Although science was able to do little for him his sufferings caused him to seek relief from many doctors. Last winter he spent three weeks taking treatment in Ottumwa and more recently he had been making regular trips to Sigourney, but all to no avail. A large man when in good health, he had fallen off more than 100 pounds in weight in a few months previous to his death. Since about the first of May he had been visiting at the John Merz home near Harper and his son-in-law, Oren Palmer, had brought him to the Greiner home only the Sunday before his death, which occurred July 2. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 4, at 9 A.M., Ss. Peter and Paul's Church, Clear Creek, in charge of Rev. Wm. B. Schmidt. Interment was in Clear Creek cemetery.
