Louis Edward Vogel
Louis was born in 1930 on the family farm at Chariton, Iowa. His mother Anna surely must have wanted a girl, but instead she received her 6th son. Four years later, his father Jacob suddenly died and the family moved, initially to a house on U.S. 92 east of Sigourney and later to a house on Anna's brother Zeno's farm, south of Harper. Here he attented a one room school near their home, though the 6th grade, finishing the last two years of elementary school at the St Peter & Paul Catholic school in the Clearcreek community.
In 1940, Anna and her two boys moved to Sigourney, where Louis began high school graduating in 1948. Here, Louis' extra curricular activities, football, track and chorus, interested him more than academics. Notable also during this period was his work selling Fuller Brushes, with assistance and encouragement from brother Jim. This continued after high school when Louis spent a year in California, working under brother Ralph. After this, he returned to Iowa and entered St Ambrose college in Davenport.
College was interrupted a year and half later when Louis enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Here he discovered the world of electronics and learned much about life beyond his country upbringing. Returning to St Ambrose four years later, with renewed enthusiasm toward school and a career path, he now pursued a degree in physics and mathematics. It was at this time also that he met his life long partner, Marianne Sieren who was studying nursing at St Ambrose. They were married when Louis graduated in 1957, after which they moved to Notre Dame, where Louis pursued a MS degree and their first two children were born.
Finally finished with school, Louis and family moved to St Paul, Mn where he began a 24 year career with the Univac division of Sperry Corp, first on missile defense programs for the US Navy programs and later on air traffic control programs for the FAA. Here also the last four of their six children were born.
In 1980, the family moved to Clearwater Fl, when Louis transferred to the Sperry division located there, now working as a radar systems engineer for missile guidance. Five years later, he left Sperry and took a job in Orlando working for Martin Lockheed, also in missile guidance, where he stayed until his retirement in 1994.
Louis and Marianne subsequently moved to Atlanta, where their three daughters, Susan, Rita and Lisa, and families also live.

MADELINE VALBURGA TURNER
Madeline started her life in the Wetaskiwin area on April 26, 1932, born the same day as her mother. She spent most of her young life on the family farm outside of Wetaskiwin. The farming area (Rosebrier) was a close knit community with many aunts, uncles and relatives living a short distance from the Greiner farm.
When Madeline reached school age, she attended the community one-room country schoolhouse until grade 9, then she began attending high school in Wetaskiwin where she lived with her Grandmother and family, as well as spending a year or two in the high school residence.
After graduating high school, she worked for Stan Reynolds at his museum in Wetaskiwin – that would be the actual Stan Reynolds.
After the passing of her father, Madeline moved to Edmonton, renting a room in house in the University area. She worked at a variety of jobs including C.I.L., going home every weekend. After a few years, her mother also moved to Edmonton where they shared an apartment for a short time.
Madeline met Gene Turner and married him in May of 1958 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Over the next 9 years, Madeline followed Gene as his job took him to a variety of communities in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. These included Fort St. John, BC, Swan Hills, AB, Slave Lake, AB, Estevan, Sask, and finally they put down roots in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1967, renting a house on 72 street and 79 avenue. From 1959 to 1968, mom gave birth to 4 children. Shane was born in Fort St. John in 1959. Cameron was born in 1960 in Edmonton, Alberta. Dawn was born in 1962 in Edmonton, Alberta. Lance was born in 1968 in Edmonton, Alberta. She was a stay at home Mom, working occasionally until all the kids were in school.
In 1975, Madeline and Gene bought a house in the Ottewell area. She loved the years when all the kids were living at the house, creating many great memories. Madeline remained in the house until 2014 when she relocated to an apartment in Garneau Hall on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, and then to the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care facility shortly afterwards.
Madeline was very proud of her 4 grandchildren, Mallory (Cam’s oldest), Graeham (Shane’s) oldest, Kyle (Cam’a youngest) and Grant (Shane’s youngest). She enjoyed spending time with each and every one of her family members. She enjoyed buying unique gifts for everyone, gifts that she knew each person would enjoy, as well as special gifts for the holidays.
Madeline started working for Edmonton Public School Board as a temporary and permanent staff member in the budget department, and was extremely proud of the work that she did. She was nominated for and won an award in 2005 called an Act to Follow. In 2010, at the age of 78, she retired after 32 years of service. Madeline loved the work she did as well as the social aspect that she had with co-workers.
Madeline liked to have the whole family together for holidays and special events. Right up until the end of her full life, she spent time thinking about and planning ways to spend with her family. It is with great sadness that we put Madeline to rest. We know that she would have loved being here visiting with everyone and discussing all the news in everyone’s lives. Thank you all for coming and sharing her memory.
