- OBITUARY - James Watson
James A. "Jim" Watson, 80, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, November 18, 2016, at Park Place Elder Living.
Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Monday, November 21, 2016, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass with be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Rev. Brian Shepley celebrating. Following the service cremation will be accorded. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Mt. Pleasant Community School District Foundation for the purpose of purchasing elementary library material or The Ronald McDonald House. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.
Born on December 5, 1935, in Rubio, IA, James Albert was the son of Lawrence Glenn "Lank" and Lucille Adeline Bond Watson. A graduate of Keota High School, Jim spent the first 19 years of his life in the Washington and Keota, IA, area. Following graduation, he moved to Mt. Pleasant and has resided there ever since. On June 14, 1956, he married Eileen Heisdorffer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota, IA.
Jim worked in the seed and fertilizer business, retiring in 2010. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. An avid Hawkeye fan, Jim also enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees. In his spare time, he liked to read books about the Civil War and World War II. For many years, his dog, Maggie, was his faithful companion. Most important in Jim's life was his family, especially his grandchildren and their many sporting activities that he faithfully attended.
Along with his wife, Eileen, of 60 years, Jim is survived by three sons, Curt (Cindy) Watson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dick (Nancy) Watson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Kevin (Julia) Watson of Denver, CO; two daughters, Pam (David) Smith of Cedar Falls, IA, and Patti (Kevin) Roth of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two brothers, Gary Watson of Moberly, MO, and Bob (Patsy) Watson of Ft. Madison, IA; and one sister, Sheila (Ron) Chapman of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenny Watson and Larry Watson.
