- OBITUARY
Kirksville, Mo. - Dr. Keith Richard Conklin - 1941 - 2009
Dr. Keith Richard Conklin, 68, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday (May 21, 2009) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
On February 14, 1941 in Harper, Iowa, Keith was born the son of Cleo Wayne and Viola Anna (Hammes) Conklin.
Dr. Conklin was the beloved husband of Jo Conklin of Kirksville, MO, who survives. He was the loving father of four children: Cari (Conklin) Wise and husband Ken of Worden, IL; Carli Conklin of Charlottesville, VA; C. David Rouner of Kirksville, MO; and Alisha Hudson of Kirksville, MO; and the grandfather of two grandchildren: Max Reeder of Kirksville, MO and Matt Wise of Worden, IL. Keith also had five siblings who were dear friends: Ken Conklin, Barb Conklin and Bonnie Irvine all of the Washington, D.C. area; Dorothy (Conklin) Stahl of Franklin, TN; Ron Conklin and wife Lynda of Columbia, MO; Bonnie (Conklin) Zeigler and husband Leon of Mexico, MO; and Myron Hammes of Paradise Valley, AZ; and also survived by a close, extended family, including his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Paula Rouner of Joplin, MO; one aunt, Dorothy Kerber of Sigourney, IA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents preceded him in death.
Dr. Conklin was a graduate from St. Elizabeth’s High School in 1959, Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1967, and University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. He practiced for one year in Drexel, Missouri, before moving to Kirksville, where he started Parkview Animal Hospital and served the Kirksville and surrounding communities as a small and large animal veterinarian until September, 2006, when he retired.
Following his retirement, Dr. Conklin remained in Kirksville, where he continued to enjoy his farm work and the Northern Missouri countryside that he so cherished. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association and a lively supporter of the Republican Party. He was also an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Conklin was known as “Doc” and was well-loved by his clients, many of whom were also dear friends. He considered it a privilege to serve the Northeast Missouri Communities for over thirty years. Doc will be remembered for his quick smile, long storytelling, and tireless generosity.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (May 24, 2009) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Worship Pastor Damon Fontinel officiating. Interment will follow the service at Jewel Cemetery, northwest of Kirksville.
