      Life Story for Ardis Hammes

      SIGOURNEY-Ardis Hammes, age 84, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
      Ardis was born September 16, 1931 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Floyd and Mildred (Swain) Yahnke. She attended elementary school in Delta and country school before graduating from Sigourney High School. On June 2, 1952, Ardis married Harold Hammes at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. She worked for several years as a cook at Sigourney Community School District. Ardis was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed camping, gardening, walking and singing in the Sweet Adelines.
      Survivors include five children: Mike (Sandy) Hammes of Coralville, Dick Hammes of Sigourney, Harold Dean (Gwen) Hammes of Asheville, North Carolina, Mildred (Mike) Spegal of Sigourney and Cindy (Tim) Salmon of Peoria, Illinois; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harold on September 24, 1997 and sister: Marlene M. Hammes in 2001.
      Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating.

      Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m.
