Obituary
Edith Luitgardis (Hammes) Warnick, 92, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on March 31, 2023.
Edith was born on September 15th, 1930 in Harper, Iowa to Peter and Pearl (Sondag) Adam. She attended Harper Catholic School in Harper, Iowa. Upon graduating from St. Elizabeth High School, she married LeRoy Walter Hammes on January 22, 1949 at St. Elizabeth's Church in Harper, Iowa. Together they raised 12 children. LeRoy passed away on August 19, 1989. Edith married Leo Clair Warnick Jr on March 12, 1991 at their home in Delta, Iowa. Edith spent her life in service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sigourney, Iowa. Edith worked many places throughout her long life including, Ross Electric in Washington, Iowa; the Town House Cafe in Sigourney, Iowa; the Delta School House, the Sigourney School District; the Delta Senior Center; Playtime in Rosehill, Iowa; Maid Rite in Sigourney, Iowa and the Sigourney Care Center. Edith spent her life doing all the things she loved with those she loved. Edith loved going dancing, camping with her family, tending to her garden and flowers, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events, playing cards where the Queen set the rules and won every time, baking cinnamon rolls, cookies, and breads, and attending and hosting the Hammes Family Christmas party every year where she created many memories with her ever-growing family.
Edith is survived by her children, Patrick(Merry) Hammes, Patrick(Ann) Bombei, Cheryl(Donald) Bird, Harry Hammes, Leroy(Lori) Hammes, Charlene(Carl) Unkel, Peter(Patty) Hammes, Mark(Tracy) Hammes, Daniel(Ray Robles) Hammes, and Deanna(Charles) Montgomery; her stepchildren, Larry(Ann) Warnick, Terry(Julia) Warnick, Jeanne(Tim) McAdam, Gary(Anna Hayek) Warnick, Nancy(Mark) Luepke, Jerry (Arlene) Warnick; her brother Harry Joe(Rita) Adam and sister in law Donna Adam; 30 Grandchildren; 62 Great Grandchildren; and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.
Edith is welcomed at the Gate of Heaven by her parents, two husbands, son Edward Hammes, daughter Elizabeth Jones, her siblings; Juan Adam, Oda Reed, Ruth Ann Adam, Ruth Ann Adam, Theophlia Adam, Adella Greiner, Verda Sieren, Theodore Adam, Verena Snakenberg, and Elmer Adam, two granddaughters; Lana Lynn Hammes and Faith Ann Al-Munajed.
