- PAUL HAMMESES CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY
A celebration honoring Paul and Mariann Hammeses 40th wedding anniversary was held Sat., Apr. 30 at St. Mary's Hall in Keota. Approximately 350 friends and relatives attended. They enjoyed a meal, a "memory program" put on by their children and grandchildren and dancing.
Paul and Marian were married Apr. 5, 1948 at East Pleasant Plain. The event was honored by their six children and seven grandchildren. Jim and Connie Weber, Jeff and Jill of Iowa City; Doug and Bonnie Laux, Aaron, Amy and Ryan of Mt. Vernon, Ron and Christy Lyle, Angie and Eric of Keota, Randy Hammes of Mesa., Ariz., Terri Hammes of Keota
and Danny Hammes of Cedar Rapids.

- OBITUARY
Marian L. Hammes, 72, died Saturday, November 11, 2000 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
She was born August 13, 1928, near Keota, the daughter of William P. and Christine (Greiner) Adam. She attended rural school at Clear Creek. She was united in marriage to Paul S. Hammes on April 6, 1948 at Pleasant Plain. She lived in the Keota area all of her life. They owned and operated Hammes Oil Company for 44 years before retiring in 1991. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary
Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, making ceramics and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by three daughters, Connie Weber of Iowa City, Bonnie Laux of Chandler, Arizona and Christy Lyle of Mesa, Arizona; three sons, Randy Hammes ofChandler, Arizona, Terry Hammes of LaFayette, Louisiana and Dan Hammes of Newhall; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eleanor Soboski and Isabelle Leppert, both of Richland, Jeanette French of Rockford, Illinois and Francine Freeman of Chulota, Florida; five brothers, Walter, Richard and Ronald Adam all of Fairfield,
Omar Adam of Richland and Don Adam of Keota; one grand aunt, Elizabeth Adam Lyttle of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul on February 23, 2000; and sister, Lucille Adrian.
Mass of the Resurrection was held November 14 at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Timothy Regan officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Keota.
A general memorial fund has been established.
Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
