Funeral services and Mass of Christian burial for Jeffrey J. Hammes, formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Private family burial will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a vigil
service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jeffrey died Saturday, May 24, 2003, in rural Milan, Ill.
Jeffrey John Hammes was born July 12, 1952, in Davenport, the son of Wilfred G. and Elizabeth Ann (Besser) Hammes. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1970. He was employed as a dispatcher for Quad-City Processing Distribution Facility, Milan. His memberships include the Postal Union APWA, Rock Island and he was a member of the Post Office Sunday Mixed Bowling League. Jeff was an avid Hawkeye, Packers and Brewers fan. Memorials may be made to American Diabetic Association, Assumption High School or Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Survivors include his son, Rick Kennison and his wife Jennifer, Germantown, Wis.; a grandson, Hayden Kennison; father and step mother, Wilfred "Willie" and Joyce Hammes, Bettendorf; a sister, Amy A. Hammes, Honolulu, Hawaii; brothers, Wynn Hammes and his wife, Mary, Davenport, Drew Hammes, Dubuque, Mark Hammes and his wife, Debra, Davenport; his significant other, Robyn Wangelin, Preemption; several nieces and nephews; and two step sisters and two step brothers. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Hammes, 1983.
