    • VOGEL FAMILY REUNION HELD
      The descendants of Frank B. and Catherine Lutz Vogel met for a family reunion on Sunday, Sept. 6 at St. Elizabeth Church Hall in Harper with a catered dinner for 65 family members. The Elizabeth Vogel Dumont family hosted the reunion.
      Since the last reunion two years ago, five family members have died. Frank B. and Catherine Lutz Vogel were the parents of 16 children. The only surviving member is Mary Vogel Dehner of Wenatchee, Wash., who was present. Two current birthdays were celebrated, that of Mary Dehner, who will be 90 years old and Bernice Vogel, who will be 91.

    • Leo Raymond Vogel
      Leo was killed while operating a hay baler on the John W. Greiner farm, south of Tallyrand. He was alone at the time. Leo had farmed in that community for the past 34 years. Dr. R. Giles Gillett said his right arm was mangled and it was necessary to partially dismantle the baler to release him.
      The cause of his death was from shock, according to the Dr. Leo attended school at Clear Creek and at St. Ambrose college in Davenport, Iowa.

      Hay Baler Accident Causes His Death

      Leo Raymond Vogel, 59, a Keota farmer, was killed Monday afternoon while operating a hay baler on the John W. Greiner farm, south of Talleyrand. He was alone at the time. He had farmed in that community for the past 34 years. Dr. R. Giles Gillett said his right arm was mangled and it was necessary to partially dismantle the baler to release him. The cause of his death was from shock, according to Dr. Gillett.
      He was born January 23, 1899 on a farm near Harper, the son of F. B. and Katherine Lutz Vogel. He attended the school at Clear Creek and St. Ambrose college in Davenport. On May 6, 1924 he was married to Magdalena Peiffer at the Clear Creek church. To this union four children were born. He was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic church at Clear Creek and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jake. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Virginia Margaret Vogel of Des Moines; Mrs. Robert Brady of Oskaloosa and Mrs. James Pease of Great Falls, Montana; a son, Donald James Vogel, of Washington, Iowa, and three grandchildren.
      He also leaves seven sisters, Katherine Vogel of Iowa City, Mrs. Henry Hammen of Manson, Regina Vogel of Oakland, California, Mrs. Mary Diener of Clinton, Mrs. C. P. Hammes, Mrs. Peter Dumont and Mrs. William Aller of Sigourney; five brothers, Mike Vogel of Chicago, Illinois, Joe Vogel of Harper, Andrew Vogel of Coralville, Frank and Carl Vogel of Keota.
      Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Ss. Peter and Paul's church in Clear Creek, conducted by the Rev. Marvin Siegers and burial will be in the parish cemetery.

      Funeral services for Leo Vogel, 59, Keota farmer, will be held Thursday morning, July 3rd at 9:30 a. m. at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Marvin N. Sieger officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Creek cemetery.
      Vogel was killed Monday about 4 p.m. while operating a hay baler alone on the farm of John W. Greiner south of Talleyrand.
      Coroner R. Giles Gillett said it was necessary to partially dismantle the baler to release the body. The right arm was badly mangled.
      He was born January 23, 1899, in Clear Creek township, the son of Frank B. and Katherine Lutz Vogel. He attended St. Ambrose college at Davenport. He was married May 6, 1924 to Magdelena Peiffer, who survives. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
      Surviving besides his wife are a son, Donald James Vogel of Washington; three daughters, Virginia Margaret Vogel of Des Moines, Mrs. Robert Brady of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Jane Pease of Great Falls Montana and three grandchildren.
      He also leaves six brothers, Lawrence of Kansas City, Andy of Coralville, Mike of Chicago, Frank and Carl of Keota and Joe of Harper, and seven sisters, Mrs. C. P.       He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jake.
