    • VOGEL FAMILY REUNION HELD
      The descendants of Frank B. and Catherine Lutz Vogel met for a family reunion on Sunday, Sept. 6 at St. Elizabeth Church Hall in Harper with a catered dinner for 65 family members. The Elizabeth Vogel Dumont family hosted the reunion.
      Since the last reunion two years ago, five family members have died. Frank B. and Catherine Lutz Vogel were the parents of 16 children. The only surviving member is Mary Vogel Dehner of Wenatchee, Wash., who was present. Two current birthdays were celebrated, that of Mary Dehner, who will be 90 years old and Bernice Vogel, who will be 91.

    • 50TH ANNIVERSARY
      The children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vogel will be hosts to an open house Sun., Aug. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Hall in Keota in honor of the couples 50th wedding anniversary. Carl Vogel and Berniece Peiffer were married Sept. 1, 1925 at Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic church at Clear Creek with the Rev. Bernard F. Luedtke officiating. The couple has three sons, Charles of Blairstown, Herbert of Hereford, Tex. and Hubert of Casper, Wo.; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The couple requests no gifts.

    • COUPLE OBSERVE 50TH ANNIVERSARY
      Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vogel of Keota celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 31 with mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church in Keota. The Rev. Raymond Vogel officiated at the mass. Ron Vogel of Bettendorf was lector. Pat Vogel of Blairstown, Tarry, Gary and Randy Vogel all of Hereford, Tex. and all grandsons were acolytes.
      Dinner was served at the Dodge House at noon to 70 relatives and friends. Open house was from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Hall. Mrs. Betty Hammes, sister-in-law, was in charge of the guest book. Over 160 registered. Cindy Vogel, granddaughter, cared for the gifts. The couple's attendants of 50 years ago, Mrs. Agnes Horras and Leonard Dumont, were in the receiving line with the couple. The wedding cake, a gift from the grandchildren, was cut and served by Mrs. Gertie Peiffer of Davenport, sister-in-law and Connie Vogel of Bettendorf, a granddaughter. Punch and coffee were served by Audrey Waterbeck, Cindy Vogel, Linda Brisenbine, Julie Koenig, Kathy Kuper, Carole Vogel, Jackie Martinez and JoAnn Vogel, all granddaughters. The coffee service used was a gift from their sons and daughters-in-law.
      The couple received over 200 cards and many gifts.
      Kitchen and dining room help were Mrs. Nadine Griner, Mrs. Luella Peiffer, Mrs. Dolores Weber, Mrs. Elizabeth Conrad, Mrs. Alma Riordon, Mrs. Jo Ellen Eakins, Mrs. Catherine Merz and Mrs. Carmelita Sieren. Mrs. Leola Flynn and Mrs. Marion Hammes prepared the evening meal in the Carl Vogel home.
    • CARL VOGELS OBSERVE 60TH ANNIVERSARY
      Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vogel of Keota celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 1. The day began with a 9 a.m. Mass with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren present. Their children are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vogel of Blairstown, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Vogel of Hereford, Tex., and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Vogel of Casper, Wyo.
      Dinner was served to 85 guests. Mrs. Omer Conkity and Mrs. Edwin Peiffer cut the cake and granddaughters served punch and coffee. Following dinner a toast was given by their three sons and Dorothy Horras. Phyllis Hammes sang several songs, accompanied by Greg Horras. Paul McNabb played several tunes on his harmonica.
      One hundred and sixty guests signed the register at the open house. Out of town guests were from Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Missouri and Illinois.

      OBITUARY
      CARL VOGEL OF KEOTA DIES
      Carl A. Vogel, 84, of Keota died Tuesday, May 30, 1989 at his home.
      He was born July 12, 1904 in Clear Creek Township to Frank B. and Catherine Lutz Vogel. He farmed in Clear Creek township, moving to Keota in 1950. He married Bernice Peiffer in Clear Creek.
      He is survived by his wife; three sons, Charles of Blairstown, Herbert of Herford, Texas and Hubert of Casper, Wyoming; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Hammen of Fort Dodge and Mary Dehner of Wenatchee, Washington. He was preceded in death by two grandsons.
      Funeral services were held Friday, June 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota with the Rev. Robert Harness officiating. Burial was in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek. A Knights of Columbus rosary was held at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, followed by the parish rosary. A memorial has been established to St. Mary’s Church or Clear Creek Cemetery.

      CARL A VOGEL, 84, DIES
      Keota - Carl A. Vogel, 84, of Keota died suddenly Tuesday, May 30, in his home. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Robert Harness, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be at the Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek. A memorial fund has been established for St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Clear Creek Cemetery.
      Mr. Vogel was born July 12, 1904, in Clear Creek Township the son of Frank B. and Catherine (Lutz) Vogel. He attended school in Clear Creek. On Sept. 1, 1925, he married Berniece Peiffer at the Ss. Peter and Paul Church. He was a retired farmer who farmed in Clear Creek Township, In 1950, the couple moved to Keota. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus.
      Survivors include his wife, Berniece; three sons, Charles, Blairstown, Herbert, Hereford, Texas, and Huber, Casper, Wyo.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hammen, Ft. Dodge and Mary Dehner, Wenatchee, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandson, John and Greg, six brothers, and five sisters.
      Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. The KC rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. with the parish rosary following.
