ARTICLE
Frank Benjamin Vogel, at the age of 6 years, came to Keokuk County, Iowa, with his parents, John and Oltilda Vogel, and settled on a farm 10 miles south of Keota, Iowa, in the Talleyrand area.
After their marriage, they bought a farm near Talleyrand not far from the Balser Vogel farm. They lived in a log cabin which was added onto through the years. About eight of their children were born here. Indians camped along the river below the farm and would often come up and beg for food, such as eggs and bacon.
In 1892 Frank and Catherine Vogel purchased the farm belonging to Frank Anton Lutz (Catherine's father). Mrs. Lutz had died, all the other children had left home leaving Mr. Lutz alone and Catherine Vogel felt it was her duty to look after him.
In 1905, Frank B. Vogel had the existing house built. Their new home was large, with six bedrooms upstairs and a big attic. The ground floor included a large pantry, a very large kitchen and dining room combined, a bedroom and two parlors. The front bedroom and parlor were the private quarters of Frank Anton Lutz. Frank Anton was a very stern man and strict with his grandchildren. He drove his horse and buggy to church every day and would take some of the boys along to school, but they had to be ready when he was or he would drive away and leave them and they would have to walk to school.
In August of 1928, Frank and Catherine Vogel retired and moved to 304 West Washington Street in Sigourney. The farm was sold to their son, Carl, who had the remains of the original house built by Frank Lutz torn down and remodeled the existing house. In 1950, the farm was sold to Dean Morris.
Frank B. and Catherine Vogel were the parents of sixteen children.

2ND OBITUARY
Frank Vogel, son of John Vogel and Otillia Greiner, was born in Cincinnatti, Ohio, on July 12, 1855. When 9 months old, he, with his parents, moved to Iowa, settling on a farm a couple of miles south of Talleyrand. Here he grew to manhood and his friendship for Kathehrine Lutz ripened and on January 23, 1883, they were married.
This young couple started farming south of Talleyrand, later moving to the Frank Lutz farm, where they reared their family. They made home here, and were active members of Ss. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church of Clear Creek, until in October 1928 they moved to Sigourney to spend their declining years.
In Sigourney they were faithful members of St. Mary’s parish, which suffered a distinct loss in the passing of Mr. Vogel. He was stricken suddenly on Sunday evening, February 14th, and Father Hauser came at once and administered the last rites of the church to him. He passed away to his heavenly reward.
