THE STORY OF MY LIFE
My Autobiography
I was born in Lake View, Sunday, January 18, 1920 and have lived here ever since that time.
I am an American but of Dane, French and German Descent. My uncle wished I might have been a boy but guess I had as much pep as any boy.
Until I was eight months old most of my time was spent in sleeping and they thought I was a wonderful baby.
After finding out how nice it was to creep all over and get into everything I made life interesting for the whole family.
My first teeth didn’t come through until I was nearly a year old almost all at the same time I realized that legs were to be used in walking so now I felt grown up. After learning to walk my sister would take me outside and play in the sand. For a time this was fine but not exciting enough so I took my pan of sand and poured over my sister’s head. My mother said, if I was old enough to be naughty I was old enough to be corrected.
As time went on the yard didn’t seem large enough, so each day I wondered a little farther away from home until I discovered we had friendly neighbors and called on them every day. This was alright until my mother found out what was going on and when I was out of sight she called me. At first I answered her and came running home. After thinking it over I figured out if I didn’t answer when she called no one would know where I was and could visit until I felt like going home.
One after noon soon after dinner mother missed me and called and hunted for an about an hour. All the neighbors were helping her, some thinking perhaps I had fallen in the lake. Finally they found me hiding behind a pillar at the spring. My mother paddled me all the way home. This was my last attempt at running away and hiding. From now on the sight of a stick frightened me greatly.
Playing with dishes and dolls and cutting out pictures grew tiresome so I use to look for spiders and worms to chase my sister with. She would run, scream, and cry until some one came to her rescue which of course meant punishment for me. I begin to think this was a hard just one stick after another.
At last the time arrived when it was time for me to go to school. This was all very interesting but sitting still was altogether new to me but I soon got use to and found out it paid to do so as you were told, and to study your lessons and get as much out of studying as you could.
My favorite hobby is singing. For recreation I love to be out side and enjoy playing around the lake.

- Edrie attended Lake View, Iowa public schools and graduated from the Lake View High School in 1937. Edrie lived with her parents and grandparents in a house in Lakeview that backed up to Blackhawk Lake. They had their own dock where they fished. During high school, Edrie worked at the Blackhawk cafe as a waitress.
After Edrie graduated from high school she worked for Dr. Gibson, as a receptionist. Edrie's cousin, Darlene Lille, introduced her to Vern Vogel while he was in the
Lakeview area selling Fuller Brush products. Vern left for Baltimore, Maryland to work in the aircraft plant at the beginning of World War II. In late March of 1942, Edrie joined him in Baltimore and they were married on April 7, 1942.
As soon as they were married, Vern had to go back to work; so they didn't getto go anywhere for a honeymoon. Just after their first daughter, Sheryl, was born Vern joined the Merchant Marines; so Edrie and Sheryl moved back to Lakeview were they lived until the war was over.
Edrie was always a homemaker and mother to the three girls, as Vern was out of town a great deal of the time on business. In 1947 they moved to Des Moines and lived there until 1951, at which time they moved to Wichita, Kansas.
In the early 1960's Edrie became involved with Holy Family Center, a school for handicapped children. She has a special place in her heart for these children and is always ready to help them whenever she can.
- EDRIE OCHS IS BRIDE AT BALTIMORE, MARYLAND
A wedding of interest to local people was that of Miss Edrie Ochs, daughter of Mrs. Bernice Ochs, to Vern Vogel, son of Mrs. M. Vogel of Sigourney, Iowa, which was solemnized at seven o’clock in the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 1942, at the Hayes parsonage in Baltimore, Maryland.Reverend Hays officiated at the ceremony reading the single ring service.
The bride was charming in a street length dress of black silk crepe trimmed with white lace. Her accessories were black and she wore a shoulder corsage of white gardenias.
Attending the bride was Mrs. Al Kasser who wore a blue crepe dress with tan accessories. She also wore a corsage of white gardenias.
The conventional business suit in blue pin stripe was worn by the groom and his attendant, Leslie Chapin, and both wore pink rose boutonnieres.
Witnesses to the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Al Kasser and son Alvin, Mrs. William Miskelly, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris and Dwane Chaplin.
Following the ceremony a dinner was served the wedding party.
Edrie, who is well known in community for her beauty and charm, was graduated from the Lake View, Iowa high school in 1937 and for the past three years has been office assistant to Dr. C. D. Gibson. She was a member of the Rainbow and a past Worthy Advisor of that organization.
The groom was a graduate from high school at Sigourney, Iowa, in 1935 and since that time was employed by the Fuller Brush Company until last October when he went to Baltimore to take a job with the Glen Martin Company in Fullerton, Maryland.
We wish to join with the many friends of this young couple in wishing them all happiness in the future.
