    • VOGELS OBSERVE 50 YEARS
      Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vogel of Sigourney will observe their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 12, at St. Mary's school gym. All relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend. The couple requests no gifts. They were married October 14, 1919, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic church in Harper and are the parents of Mrs. Alvin (Dorothy) Fisher and Mrs. Don (Marie) Oliver of Keswick, Joseph Vogel of Garner, Stanley Vogel of Keswick and Gordon Vogel of Louisville, Kentucky. An infant son died February 1, 1925. There are 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

    • MR. AND MRS. VOGEL OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY
      Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vogel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, October 12. Approximately 200 relatives, friends and neighbors attended the open house held at St. Mary's school in Sigourney.
      Their children, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Don Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vogel, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Vogel and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Vogel were hosts and hostesses and the grandchildren helped with serving, the guest book and gifts.
      Kitchen hostesses were Mrs. Paul Adam, Mrs. Elmer Sieren, Mrs. Wayne Morrison, Mrs. Damian Gent, Mrs. Paul Webb and Mrs. Alvin Vogel. Mary Kay Webb and Jane Vogel also helped serve.
      Decorating of the room was done by Mrs. Stanley Vogel, Mrs. Elvin Fisher and Mrs. Don Oliver.
      The four tiered cake was baked and decorated by Mrs. August Steinhart, who also made the mints and cut the cake.
      Guests were present from Alexandria, Virginia; Louisville, Kentucky; Iowa City, Washington, Keota, Harper, Cedar Rapids, Keswick, Garner, Waterloo, Clinton, Wellman, Marion, Webster, South English, North English, Fremont, Davenport, Creston, Oxford, Oskaloosa and Chicago, Illinois.
      All of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Vogel were present.

      Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vogel of Sigourney were honored on their 54th wedding anniversary on Sunday, October 14 by their family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Oliver, Keswick. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Fisher, Mrs. Marlene Asher, Todd and Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Fisher and Matt of Keswick; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Vogel, Rhonda and Linda, Larry Northup, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Strang, Jon and Michelle, all of Sigourney; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vogel of Garner; Dr. and Mrs. Dan O'Toole and Jennifer of Des Moines; and Patricia Oliver of Cedar Rapids.

    • OBITUARY - Marie H Vogel

      KESWICK- Marie H. Oliver, age 93, of Keswick, passed away at the Keokuk County Heath Center in Sigourney on Sunday, November 22, 2015, after a brief illness. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at St Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
      Marie was born near Harper, IA to Joseph A. and Maud (Clarahan) Vogel on October 15, 1922. She married Don Oliver on March 19, 1943 in Kirksville, MO. Marie and Don farmed together near Keswick from 1947 until his death in 1980. She remained on the farm until a few weeks prior to her death.
      Marie was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Keswick for 59 years until it closed; St Mary's Catholic Church, Sigourney; St Mary's Altar & Rosary Society; Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Iowa City; and the American Legion Auxiliary, Keswick. She volunteered at VA Hospital in Iowa City for eight years and then began volunteering for Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, making over 15,000 newborn baby caps. Marie was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them. She was known for her extremely hard work and determination, meticulous lawn, and her cutout cookies loved by her family.
      Marie is survived by three daughters, Janice Strang of Urbandale; Jane (Dan) O'Toole of Oelwein; and Patricia Oliver of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jon (Jackie) Strang of Johnston; Michelle (Jeff) Moore and Jeneane (Wayne) Stepan of Iowa City; and Jennifer O'Toole of West Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings Dorothy Fisher and Stanley Vogel all of Sigourney and Gordon Vogel of Louisville, KY.
      Preceding her in death were her husband, Don, son-in-law, Dennis Strang and brother, Joseph R. Vogel.
      The family wishes to thank Hospice of Keokuk County and the Keokuk County Health Center staff for their excellent care.
      In lieu of flowers it was Marie's wishes that memorials be given to Sixteen Cemetery Flag Fund, Hospice of Keokuk County, or St Mary's Catholic Church.
