Notes |
- Constantine Dionysius Buch Sr
NOTE
Great grandfather Constantine Buch, was a very special person. He was born the son of Peter and Barbara Buch in Tuensdorf, Germany on May 10, 1832. His mother died and is buried in Germany.
Constatine came to this country with his father, a brother, 3sisters, a brother-in-law, and 4 nieces and nephews. They arrived in New Yorkon November 22, 1855.
He married Magdalena Streit, in April of 1858, at Clear Creek.
Constantine was the leader in getting the Catholic Church started at Clear Creek.
This is a quotation taken from the church centennial book. Quote. There was a log house on the ground that they purchased to build a church. Here the catholics gathered every Sunday, and under the leadership of Constantine Buch,
said their prayers in common, heard the gospel of the day, and an explanation of the same. Thus he kept them instructed in the faith, and by many other sacrifices of time and effort, held them together in the early years.
A later pastor paid him this tribute. "The catholics of Clear Creek will never in this life, fully understand the gratitude they owe Constantine Buch"
His role as leader of the church, included, teaching school in 1865 and again in 1888-89.
Choir leader for their german hymns. Church trustee, for many, many years. He was also janitor-sacristant of the church for years.
This is another quotation taken from the centanial book, about Constantine. Quote. "All during the time of intermettent pastors, Constantine Buch was the man who held the parish together. Called "vergestzte" by the parishoners, (meaning the boss, or one who gives commands), because of his prominence in the parish.
Regularly his name crops up in one or another capacity in the parish.
He was also prominent in business matters, filling the office of assessor of Clear Creek township for four years and that of township clerk for ten years in succession.
