      Charles Ulin
      Charles Ulin passed from this life on April 18, 2010 at the Keokuk County Health Center. A funeral service officiated by Francis Baumert will be held at Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney at 10:30 on Friday, April 23rd. Visitation will be at Holm Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, April 22nd.
      Charles was born near Delta, Iowa on August 5, 1922 to Walter Ulin and Stella Parkhill Ulin. He grew up on the
      farm and attended Sigourney Schools. Charles enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving as a mechanic on the USS Marquette and the USS Francis M. Robinson. He crossed the Atlantic many times on these destroyers as they escorted troop carriers to Europe. During his enlistment, Charles married Eveleen Hammes on August 25, 1943. To this union three daughters, Charlene, Rita, and Janice were born.
      After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy on January 16, 1946, Charles returned to Iowa and began his career in farming. He spent his lifetime farming southwest of Sigourney until his health failed in the fall of 2005. Charles was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
      American Legion, and the Farm Bureau. He was a steward of the land and always enjoyed raising cattle. He loved the outdoors and was a master at finding morels. He was always up for a game of cards or a game of dice. In retirement he loved to help his grandsons with their farming and was always ready with advice.
      He is survived by his daughters, Charlene(Rick) Hendryx, Des Moines, IA, Rita Shewmake, Miami, OK, and Janice(Dennis) Moore, Keswick, IA; grandchildren, Renee Lindaman, North Las Vegas, NV,
      ohn Lindaman, Las Vegas, NV, Laura Moore, Montezuma, IA, William(Schay)Moore, Sigourney, IA, Charles(Mandy) Moore, What Cheer, IA, Andrea Moore, Keswick, IA, Scott(Kim)Smith, Madison WI, Shannon(Troy)Smith, Durango, CO, Angie(Ben) Gilles, Las Vegas, NV, and Kim Nguyen, Iowa City, IA; step-grandchildren Anne(Jason) Scafuri, Ankeny, IA, and Bart(Amy)Hendryx, Omaha, NE; and twenty-two great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Cook, Albequere, NM, and Almeta Stein, Oskaloosa, IA;
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Eveleen, his parents, and brother, John.
