The families of the late Constant and Lena Hammes held a reunion at St. Mary's Hall on Sun., June 26 with a potluck dinner. There were 75 present.

Mr. and Mrs. Constant Hammes of Sigourney celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Feb. 22 with a home Mass at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Francis E. Lollich officiating. All of their children were present for the day.
Constant Hammes and Lena Vogel were married Feb. 22, 1911 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Clear Creek.

Mr. and Mrs. Hammes have 42 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Mr. Hammes has been in Manor House Nursing Home in Sigourney since December and Mrs. Hammes has been living in their home.

SIGOURNEY: Shirley Himrod daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Himrod, and Charles C. Hammes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Constant Hammes, were married Monday at St. Peter and Paul’s church at Clear Creek.
The Rev. Paul Kleinfelder performed the ceremony before an alter decorated with Easter lilies and baskets of whie gladiolus and yellow snapdragons. Bernard Vogel of Clarence was soloist.
The bride wore a white satin gown with a senior train. Her fingertip veil was caught to a tiara of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of lilies and yellow roses.
Miss Jeanne Himrod, gowned in green taffetas, was maid of honor for her sister. Robert Hammes of Kansas City, brother of the bride-groom, was best man and ushers were Donald Peiffer of Des Moines and Robert Fear of Sigourney. Jenny Webb was flower girl.
A reception of 150 guests was given in the Memorial hall. After a brief wedding trip, the couple will live on a farm southwest of Sigourney. The bride has been employed in the law office of Frank M. Bently.

Hammes, Charles C. "Chuck"
Marion -- Charles C. ``Chuck'' Hammes, 82, a resident of Northbrook Care Center in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Sunday morning, July 15, 2007, at the care center, after losing his battle with lung cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, by Father Greg Bahl. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a Scripture service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Karen Hammes (husband Marvin Shenefelt) of Hiawatha, David Hammes of Robins, Duane Hammes of Cedar Rapids, Sheryl Gomes (husband Tom Gomes) of Gillette, Wyo.; and two grandchildren, Bobby Joe Hammes and Kevin Shenefelt.
Also surviving are his sisters, Anna Katherine Krier of Ollie and Mary Webb of Sigourney; and his brothers, Norbert Hammes of Fairfield and Robert Hammes of Delta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marcella; brothers, Orville and Paul; and an infant
sister and brother.
Chuck was born May 27, 1925, the son of Constant and Lena (Vogel) Hammes, in rural Harper, Iowa. Chuck farmed for a short time and then moved to Marion, became a carpenter and worked on many construction projects in the Cedar Rapids area. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 5390, Carpenters Local 308, and was a 20-year friend of Bill W.
