AN OLD LADY DEAD
Mrs. Mary Magdalena Peiffer Dies At Her Home In Clear Creek
After an illness of four years, fortified with all the sacraments of the dying, in the presence of her children and Pastor, Grandmother Mary Magdalena Peiffer passed away Feb. 23, 1906 at 10 PM. She had reached the age of 92 years, 1 month and 20 days. She remained in full possession of her faculties to the very last moment. The deceased was born in Oberperl, Germany, Dec. 24, 1813. She was married to Paul Peiffer, who died near Clear Creek on Dec. 6, 1888. They came to America in 1847, settling down on a farm in Clear Creek Twp., Keokuk County Iowa, where both of these pioneers concluded their life. Five sons and one daughter remain to mourn her death, Nick, Mike, Peter, Joseph, Wendle and Mary, wife of the late Peter Baker.
One of her sons, John died about 4 years ago, with whom she had made her home and where she died. She leaves 54 grandchildren and 100 great grandchildren. The funeral services took place Monday morning at the St. Peter & Paul Church in Clear Creek. Rev. Peter Stahl celebrated the Requim Mass. Rev.'s N. J. Peiffer and H. Grothe served as Deacon and Sub Deacon. She was laid to rest at the side of her husband in the Catholic Cemetery at Clear Creek. In spite of the unfavorable roads, friends from far and near came to pay their last tribute of honor and respect.
