      Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Anna Willis, 93, a former resident of Eldridge, Iowa, and a longtime resident of Harper, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Harper , Iowa Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
      Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church, where a prayer service will be offered at 4:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before service time at the church on Friday. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
      Irene died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at her residence in Davenport.
      Irene Anna Hammes was born September 15, 1911 in Keokuk County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Theresa (Gries) Hammes. She married J. Clark Willis, April 25, 1936 in Keota, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 8, 1979.
      Irene was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. In earlier years she was employed in the
      school lunch program at St. Elizabeth School in Harper. She then served as bookkeeper for the school lunch program for many years. Prior to moving to Eldridge she was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and the Altar & Rosary Society in Harper. She enjoyed playing cards, and was a very talented quilter and crochetier.
      Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or St. John Vianney Building Fund.
      Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Jan Willis, Eldridge, Iowa; Dennis and Barbara Willis, South Sioux City, Nebraska; Bob and Joy Willis, Bettendorf; Tom and Barbara Willis, Davenport; Don and Suzanne Willis, Spirit Lake, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Lorene and Donnie Altenhofen, Eldridge, Iowa; 26 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; brothers, Omer Hammes (Burnita) Harper, Iowa, Herb Hammes (Maxine) Sigourney, Iowa, and Wilfred “Willy” Hammes (Joyce), Bettendorf; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Hammes, Sigourney, and Mary Hammes, Iowa City, Iowa. In addition to her husband, a daughter in law, Mary Lou Willis, great grandson Nicholas Baldwin, brothers, Raymond and Floyd and a sister Bernice Heuberger preceded her in death.
