Notes - OBITUARY
Bernice Margaret Heuberger, 89, of Milwaukie, Oregon, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004.
She was born Feb. 18, 1914, the daughter of Peter and Theresa (Gries) Hammes the third of seven children. She grew up on a farm near Clear Creek. She went to Oregon in 1937 to visit her grandmother, Mary Welter Gries Heubergen and met Mary's stepson, Lawrence. They married in 1939 and had six children. She retired form Stayton Canning Co. She and her husband were members of the Salem Eagles Club and enjoyed dancing there. She belonged to the Sublimity Quilters Club. She moved to Vinyard Retirement Home in Milwaukie in 1993. She was an avid walker and liked to play bridge, pinochle and going to casinos. She enjoyed making quilts, cookies and cinnamon rolls for her family and making rhubarb wine.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Picteak and Arlene Pekkola both of Milwaukie, Ore.; three sons, Howard of Olney, Md., Melvin of Overland Park, Kan. and Paul of Salem, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Willis of Bettendorf; four brothers, Raymond
Hammes of Coralville, Omer Hammes of Harper, Herbert Hammes of Sigourney and Wilfred Hammes of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1992; a son David in 1977; and a brother Floyd in 2003.
Funeral service were held Fri., Feb. 6 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity. Interment was at St. Boniface Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St.
Boniface Catholic Church or St. John Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie.
Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton, Oregon was in charge of the arrangements.
