Obituary - Fairfield
Edwin Cyril Hammes age 90 206 Wilson Blvd in Fairfield, died June 28, 2010 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
He was born January 20,1920 in rural Keokuk County, Iowa, the son of Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes.
Ed attended school in rural Keokuk County.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 4, 1942 to October 3, 1945
Serving in Patton's Third Army.
Ed farmed in Keokuk County and was construction manager for Perrin, Inc.
He married Vivian Boyle Mogged on February 8, 1974 in Fairfield.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in both Harper and Fairfield. The Fairfield Lions Club, where he was recipient of both the Lion of the Year and The Warren Coleman Award; plus he was honored as the State of Iowa Volunteer of the Year, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Deceased family members include his parents, , 3 sons: Gregory Mogged, Patrick Hammes and James Hammes; brother Lawrence (Bud) Hammes; sisters: Leola Heisdorffer, Agatha Conrad, Dolores Baker and Eveleen Ulin and 1 grandson Benjamin Swanson.
Surviving are his wife Vivian; children Doug (Deb) Hammes of Cedar Rapids; Chuck (Deb) Mogged of Colleyville, TX.; Jim (Penny) Mogged of Lindenhurst, IL; Kathleen ( Alan) Keller of Algona; and Karen (Dave) Swanson of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and siblings: Elizabeth Conrad of Sigourney; Beatrice Clubb of Sigourney; John Marvin Hammes of Fairfield; Kenneth Hammes of Solon, IA; Cletus Hammes and Donna Paarman, both of Sigourney.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with Father Stephen C. Page officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
The Prayer service will be at 6:00 P.M. at Raymond's.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Hospice of Central Iowa or to the Fairfield Lions Club.
Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
