Kenneth has never been married, however Teresa is the daughter of a good friend, Rosie Laubach, and he adopted her into the Hammes family.
- BIRTHDAY
Kenny Hammes will celebrate his 80th birthday at a Surprise Party on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the North Liberty First United Methodist Church, 85 North Jones Blvd., North Liberty, Iowa.
The event is hosted by his grandchildren, Walker and Carter Sea. No gifts please, only your presence is requested.

- OBITUARY
Kenneth Leander Hammes, 83, died January 23, 2014 at his home in Solon, Iowa. He was born on February 22, 1930 near Clear Creek to Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes. He spent his childhood on the family farm south of Harper and attended school at Ss Peter and Paul School in Clear Creek. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military Kenneth and Elmer Conrad farmed, bought and sold antiques. Kenneth was a master wood carver and carpenter. He used his skills repairing antiques.
Kenneth enjoyed taking care of his farm and livestock. He was a township trustee for many years. In 1991, he met Rosie, the love of his life, and they continued to work on the farm until they moved to Solon in 2007. They enjoyed taking care of their grandsons Walker Kenneth Sea and Carter Nelson Sea.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, playing pool, cards, mushrooming, bowling, and working at the Iowa State Fair. He worked at the Sigourney Elevator for 5 years, He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Many times he fixed things for family or friends asking nothing. He was a kind person.and he had worked at the Coralville Walmart store as a greeter and clearance isle associate since October of 2008 without missing a shift due to illness or weather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters Leola Heisdorffer, Agatha Conrad, Dolores Baker, Eveleen Ulin, Beatrice Clubb, three brothers Lawrence “Bud” Hammes, Edwin Hammes, and Marvin Hammes.
He is survived by his wife Rosie, adopted daughter Teresa R. Laubach Sea, two grandsons, two sisters Elizabeth Conrad and Donna Paarman, one brother Cletus Hammes all of Sigourney and many nieces and nephews. He was Godfather to Fran Vannier and Tammy Conrad – Hoover.
Funeral Service: Monday 10:00 A.M. January 23, 2014 St. Mary Catholic Church
Visitation: Sunday Prayers Service at 3:00 P.M. with a visitation 3:30 – 7:00 P.M. Holm Funeral Home
Burial: Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Clear Creek
