Mrs. LaVera Priaulx, formerly of Elmwood, passed away peacefully in the morning hours on Friday, March 10th, 2006, at Dekora Springs Long Term Care Facility in Saukville, Wisconsin. She was 92 years old. LaVera was born in Racine on June 26, 1913, daughter of Michael A. and Cecelia Hammes.
She was united in marriage with Ernest J. Priaulx in Racine on May 25, 1938. The couple resided in Racine until Ernest preceded her in death on March 23, 1995. LaVera was a well known piano teacher, having taught lessons out of her home for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Altar Society. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed music and crafts. She had traveled to all 50 states, finally making it to Alaska while in her 80’s. Mrs. Priaulx was also a member of a card club that she started in high school with three other friends, they played pinochle once a week for over 40 years. Most important to LaVera were her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Ernest “Miche” (Judith) Priaulx of Saukville, 3 grandchildren: Cassandra (fiancée Leonard Hanson) Priaulx of Milwaukee, Bret Priaulx of Whitewater and Michael Priaulx of Madison. She is further survived by 2 brothers, Elroy (Doris) and Dr. James Hammes, sister-in-laws Barbara Workman Hammes and Eileen Hammes, all of Racine, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Donald Hammes.
A Mass of Christain Burial will be held Tuesday, March 14, 12 noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 145 Church Street, Saukville. Father Karl Acker will officiate.
LaVera will be laid to rest next to her husband in Woodlawn Cemetery, Racine. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH Tuesday from 11 AM until the beginning of services at 12 noon.
Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family. Memorials to the family are suggested.
