- NOTE
Jerry. Just wanted to let the Hammes family in Iowa and elsewhere know that Elroy Hammes, Mike and Cecelia’s oldest son passed away in the early afternoon on Saturday, March 15, 2014. He was 98 years old. He had been admitted to the nursing home just the previous evening, but once he got there, he was made comfortable and treated in a considerate, loving manner that he so dearly deserved. The pastor was the last person he was with. Pastor anointed him with oil, said the Benediction, and left him in peace. He died a few moments later. We did not expect him to pass so quickly, I dearly wanted to be with him when he died, but it was not to be. Mom and I got there about 10 minutes later. We are grateful that he is now in the light. It seems somehow fitting that dad/Elroy died on his father (Mike’s) birthday. The funeral will be Saturday. I am sorry to be putting this on Facebook, but thought it would get the word out to all who might want to send a prayer his way. Donna Hammes
