Iowa; and Alva and Isabelle Baker of Keota, Iowa.

Donald was born Donald Casper Hammes. Somewhere along the way his name was changed to Donald Edward. Not sure if he did it legally or not. When he went into the Army it was Donald Edward

Donald farms South of Harper, Iowa in Keokuk County. They raise crops and have a hog operation raising their own from farrowing to market.
- OBITUARY
Donald Edward Hammes, 85, died June 13, 2005 at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born July 28, 1919 in rural Sigourney, the son of Zeno and Edna Horras Hammes. He attended school in Clear Creek Township. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Laurena May Appleget on June 29, 1949 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek. They lived and farmed east of Sigourney and he drove for Kingsbury Homes. He was a member Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Windhorst Council #1457 in Harper,
He is survived by his wife; a son, Alan of Sigourney; two daughters, Peggy of Dillon, Colo. and Laurel of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard of Sigourney; and three sisters, Isabelle Baker of Keota, Marjorie Striegel of Harper and Mary Louise Hahn of Sigourney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter Carolyn Rupert.
Funeral services were held Thurs., June 16 at Holy Trinity Parish Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek with the Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial was at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek with Military Honors given by the Sigourney Veterans.
Memorials may be made to Hospice House 312 Alta Vista, Ottumwa, Ia 52501.
Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney was in charge of the arrangements.
