- Eugene Peter Reed
Eugene's occupation was farming and raising hogs. He farmed about 1000 acres and raised about 6500 head of hogs per year. They retired and are living (1995) near Washington, Iowa.

Eugene passed away at about 1:40 this morning, Iowa time. Two weeks ago he was in the hospital with pneumonia. The Parkinson's had pretty much taken his esophagus and trachea muscles. They brought him back to Halcyon House because there was nothing more they could do for him. He could only sip little bits of broth and juice and have it go down. Last Wednesday, he began the final process. By Friday he could no longer get even sips down. He has not suffered although his breathing became more and more labored. He has fought Parkinson's for 25 years. He has had no equilibrium and has been in a wheel chair for about a year and a half, has barely been able to speak for the last six months. He is now at peace. God bless us all.

- OBITUARY
Washington: Eugene P. Reed, 81, of Washington, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Halcyon House following a lingering illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. James Catholic Church.
Burial: Elm Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon today at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m. and vigil service at 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; four children, Mary Ellen Reed of Tiffin, Phil Reed of Washington, Joseph Reed of Carter Lake and Ann Reed of Iowa City; and five brothers, Cletus of Washington, Hubert of Davenport, James and Edmund, both of Keota, and Daniel of South English.
