"John F. Bombei, 70, of Sigourney, a retired Clear Creek farmer, died Sunday about 9:45 a.m., at the Keokuk County Hospital, where he was taken after he suffered a severe stroke on Sunday, October 25.
"Funeral service was held this morning (Wednesday) at St. Mary's church in Sigourney, with the rev. J.M. Mackin officiating at the Solemn Requiem High Mass, as deacon, and the Rev. Marvin Sieger, as sub deacon, and burial was in the Ss. Peter and Paul cemetery at Clear Creek.
"He was born July 10, 1889, on a farm in the Talleyrand community, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Bombei.*
"On February 28, 1911, he was married to Agnes Hammes of Clear Creek. They farmed in that community until retiring 12 years ago to their home at 318 West Walnut street in Sigourney.
"He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney, and a charter member of Windthorst Council, Knights of Columbus, at Harper.
"He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudolph and Nick.
"He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Lowell Striegel, Mrs. Delbert Striegel, of Harper; Mrs. Adrian Conrad of Zearing; Mrs. John Greene, of Keswick; two sons, Leonard Bombei of West Chester and Irvin Bombei of Harper; 41 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Tremmel of Sigourney and Mrs. Lena Dunkerson of Guthrie Center; two brothers, Pete Bombei of Sigourney and Henry Bombei of Keota.
"The Rosary service was said by the Knights of Columbus at the home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and the parish Rosary at 8 p.m.
"Pall bearers were LaVerne Striegel, Larry Striegel, Ronald Bombei, Gary Bombei, Kenneth Striegel, and Larry Klein."
