Notes - OBITUARY
PETER MERZ was born in Aft [Eft], Germany, in the year 1843, and passed away at his late home in Harper, Ia., Nov. 30, 1926, at the advanced age of 83 years. In the year 1868 he imigrated to America and located in Clear Creek township, where he lived until he moved to Harper serveral years ago.
He was united in marriage to Mrs. Katherine Vogel in the year 1874. To this union four children were born. The deceased was one of our good industrious thrifty pioneers who helped convert a primitive land into tillable productive fields. He was a loyal husband, kind father, good neighbor and a faithful christian.
He is survived by his wife and 3 children, John Merz and Mrs. Margaret Sieren, of Harper, Iowa, and Will J. Merz of Maynard, Minn. - one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, having preceded him thirteen years ago, and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, Dec. 2, at St. Elizabeth's chuch at 10 o'clock and the remains interred in St. Elizabeth's cemetery.
