OBITUARY
Ramona J. Leinen, 67
PORTSMOUTH - Ramona Jane Leinen, the daughter of Henry E. and Bertha R. (Hainley) Slaven was born April 19, 1922, on a farm south of Portsmouth. She died at the Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha, ME.. March 31,1990, at age 67 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was baptized, received her First Communion and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated with the class of 1940. She then went on to attend business school in Omaha, NE., and later worked for the A.S.C.S. office for a short time.
Feb. 11, 1942,-she married Michael T. Leinen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth.Thirteen children were born to this union. After they were married they farmed near Portsmouth. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church her entire life, headed the CCD program and CYO functions, was a lector, communion minister, co-chairman of the Tri-Parish Rural Life Committee, member of the liturgy committee and a leader in many parish and communrty projects, including the Quilting Club and Rosary Confraternity, she was also active in the political arena as a member of the Shelby Co. Democratic Central committee and co-chairman of the Cass Twp. caucus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard in 1984 and a daughter, Mary Ramona at birth. She is survived by her husband, Michael T. of Portsmouth; five daughters, Jeanne (Mrs Ted) Mueller of Colorado Springs, CO.; Jane A. and Janet R. Leinen both of Denver, CO.; Martha (Mrs Thomas) Burckhardt of Mesa, AZ.; and Anne B. (Mrs Jed) Stramel of Cedar Rapids; six sons, Michael R. of Omaha, NE.; Ed of Portsmouth; Allen of Harlan; John and Tom both of Monrovia,
CA., and Nick of Santa Maria, CA.; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, John (Jack) Slaven of Portsmouth, and James (Jim) Slaven of Omaha, NE.; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated April 2, 1990 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth with Rev. Mike Mclaughlin as the celebrant. Concelebrating was Msgr. Michael Schwarte
with Rev. Edward Kelly as the Homilist, assisted by Deacon Pat Davitt. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery with sons, Ed Leinen, Nick Leinen, Tom Leinen, John Leinen, Allen Leinen and Michael R. Leinen serving as casketbearers. Pauley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
